where can i get a cheap second hand Picture Frame?

Im doin an art piece for my GCSE and need quite a large antique-looking picture frame but im having trouble finding one that isnt really expensive. Ive tried ebay but most are over £30 and i cant really afford it.

any ideas?

I forget what you call your yard sales/garage sales….boot sales? I seem to have heard that, for a sort of flea market out of the boot of the car….that is a good place to go. Here, you could find a frame worth more than the painting for about $5. Also, try estate sales, where an elderly person has died and the heirs don’t wish to keep the old framed pieces.

Brown Plein Air
Plein Air Painting Essentials: How to Paint Trees
This plein air painting by Tom Brown is impressionistic, but gives you a distinct sense of the form and structure of the scrub tree he’s painting. We often think of trees in a very human way—that they have personalities and traits that distinguish them from all the rest. Their symbolism can be powerful and moving, and they are definitely a plein air painting essential. To better understand their …

What is a fair flat rate to charge a client to change a .jpg image into vector art?

A client of mine would like to know how much I charge to change .jpg images into vector art. I’ve always billed hourly so I’m hesitant to give him a flat rate as I don’t want to insult him by charging too much or insult my self and charge too little. Any suggested flat rate prices? Should I base the rate of the level of difficulty? Thanks!
I usually charge $25 per hour. This particular client will have various levels of artwork to create in vector art. Some may take me an hour, some may take 3-5 hours depending on the size. The client is a screen printing shop.

even if it is your friend, if he goes to see a professional, we charge $125 an hour and if it takes 30 min, we cut the price in half. don’t forget that you have to do printouts etc.. to show the person and that involves cost.

What you are charging is dirt cheap. Charge him by the picture. That is the safe way to go. If you see it takes 3 hours, charge him the 3 housrs. Don’t be afraid. The person is going to make money on it, not you.
If he complains, that drop the price slightly. He won’t find anybody else to do it at $25 / hour.

Scrapbook Mats

Scrapbook Mats
What’s the best adhesive to use for memorabilia?

O.K. I know I shouldn’t glue but sleeve it, however I’m am putting back together a scrapbook (that was glued) for an old organization with limited funds. Mostly it’s comprised of news articles & photos of their old days.
Personally I have used rubber cement for my recipe cards and found that it dried up and came apart. I’ve considered spray adhesive, but that could be alot of inhaling (yuk!), and I’m down to (possibly) regular white glue or good old 3M Magic Tape.
What do you artists use to attach to mat boards? And how about you scrapbookers? Any collectors with suggestions?
My goal is to get it together, KEEP it together, but considering the aging–and will age more–papers. Also the least damage in the long run.
Thanks everyone!
Oh that Herma Dotto looks like my typing correction tape, but it’s 2-sided tape?!
Yeah, I really didn’t want to use any liquid type glue if I didn’t have to.

Along with the Acid Free double sided tape already suggested – I would highly suggest with taking the time to spray the newspaper articles and recipe cards and any other “paper memorabilia” with an archival spray to prevent deterioration – yellowing and becoming brittle. Eventually crumbling. The spray will stop the aging not make it new again. It is about $6. at Joann’s and if you are going to take all the time to re do this book – this is definitely a worthwhile investment. Use one of the 40% off coupons from Joann’s. What a wonderful thing to do for an organization – and a wonderful gift for future generations. Kudos to you.
Ps glue, scotch tape, and rubber cement are probably the worst things to use for treasured memories – they are adding to the distruction of your memoribilia by giving off an acid spreading to the paper.
